Liter to oz converter
One liter equals 33.814 US fluid oz, or 35.195 imperial fluid oz if you are working from a British measure. Type any liter amount above and Oz To Liter converts it with the exact factor, so metric bottles, cartons, and European recipes translate cleanly into the oz printed on American measuring cups.
Factor1 L = 33.814023 fl oz
The liter to oz direction comes up whenever metric packaging meets US habits: a 1.5-liter bottle of sparkling water is 50.7 oz, a 0.75-liter wine bottle is 25.4 oz, and the 2-liter soda bottle every American fridge knows is 67.6 oz.
The liter to oz formula
Multiply liters by 33.814 to get US fluid oz. The factor is the reciprocal of the fluid oz's definition: one US fl oz is exactly 29.5735295625 ml, so one liter (1, 000 ml) contains 1000 ÷ 29.5735 = 33.814 oz. For imperial oz the divisor is 28.4131 ml, which yields 35.195 oz per liter.
A useful mental shortcut: a liter is about 34 US oz, and every quarter-liter is about 8.5 oz. So 0.5 L ≈ 17 oz, 0.75 L ≈ 25 oz, and 3 L ≈ 100 oz. The converter above keeps the exact decimals when the estimate is not enough.
Liters to oz for drinks and hydration
Hydration targets are usually set in liters by health guidance and in oz by American water bottles. The commonly cited adequate daily intake, about 2.7 liters of total fluids for women and 3.7 for men, works out to roughly 91 oz and 125 oz respectively. A 2-liter daily goal is 67.6 oz, or a bit more than two 32 oz shaker bottles.
For single servings: 0.33 L (a European can) is 11.2 oz, 0.5 L is 16.9 oz, the exact size of the standard US disposable water bottle, and 1 L is just under three 12 oz cans.
When to use UK oz instead
British and Commonwealth recipes, older cookbooks, and UK product labels use the imperial fluid oz, which is about 4% smaller than the US one. Converting 1 liter with the wrong standard gives 33.8 oz instead of 35.2 oz, a difference of nearly half a cup across a liter. Use the US/UK toggle on the converter whenever your source is British; the chart below uses US oz.
